This is a chutney recipe that my dad made for many years, and I have made ever since. It’s tried and tested and is lovely.

Ingredients

  • 3 lb green tomatoes – chopped into 8ths
  • 1 1/2 lb apples – chop coarsely
  • 3/4 lb sugar
  • 3/4 tsp salt
  • 6 oz raisins
  • 3 pts vinegar
  • (1/2 oz root ginger & 3 tbsp pickling spice in muslin bag tied to handle of pan)

Method

Add all of the ingredients to a pan and bring to the boil.

Reduce until the mixture on the spoon leaves a trail.

  1. Good morning – I’m about to use your family recipe to make green tomato chutney & suspect the quantity of salt may be a typing mistake. I think I’ll use a little less! I just wondered if it could be reviewed.
I love all these local recipes.

    Many thanks
